Lessons

From beginner to professional, from student to pensioner. I teach saxophone lessons and improvisation lessons open to all instruments. For the latter, some technical proficiency on the instrument is required.

A relaxed atmosphere matters to me: no pressure, just the joy of learning. Every student gets an individual concept that develops over time.

Saxophone Lessons

Sound starts in the body: air support, posture, embouchure are the foundation. From there we work on phrasing, articulation and expression, notation and rhythm, playing by ear. Jazz, blues, rock, Latin: the saxophone is at home in many styles, and so am I.

Depending on your level and interests, we develop a personal practice programme together: from style and sound work to the finer aspects of improvisation. Beginners are welcome too. Everyone I’ve taught has learned to read music. It’s not rocket science.

Improvisation, Theory and Ear Training

Everyone can improvise. You just have to dare. The entry point can be as simple as a few notes and basic rhythms. Ear training and harmony develop naturally from there.

For advanced students, I offer individually tailored lessons: Chord/Scale Theory, Ear Training, Harmony, Rhythm/Timing, Transcribing, Thematic and Motivic Improvisation, Voice Leading, various improvisation concepts.

Online Lessons

I also teach online via Zoom, Skype or Jitsi.
