Extended Isolation

Werner Zangerle: saxophone, electronics

Melody and noise, long tones and loops, meditative stillness and unsettling density. Extended Isolation moves through shifting sound worlds.

The solo project started in the pandemic. Long hours alone in the rehearsal room, new experiments with effects. Since then, the project moves between purely acoustic saxophone and expanded playing with electronics. Multiple loops run in parallel, each with its own length. What emerges never quite repeats itself.

The singles are more finely crafted studio versions, more complex than a live set, but with an improvisatory, raw attitude intact.

bstract Nature (2024): a 13-minute meditation on nature and not-nature, born from a solo performance at the Vienna City Gallery Walk. Beams and Dots (2025): long tones as a starting point, layers of melody and randomness, an ebb and flow. A meditative space that slowly shifts.

Both on Listen Closely.
