One of the qualitities of the Werner Zangerle Quartet is to convincingly tell musical stories that take the listener on varied musical journeys. He is supported by the members of his quartet, Philip Jagschitz on keys, Andreas Waelti on bass, and Klemens Marktl on drums.
Zangerle writes the music for his quartet, evocative pieces which create a framework, but also leave a lot of room. Room, he and his fellow musicians skillfully use to fill it with music. Music that draws on plentiful resources. Lately, you can hear strong melodies next to more experimental sounds, the deconstruction of the classic song structure and the compositional design of long musical arcs. However, the resulting music is far from being brainy, it is played with heart and mind, body and soul.
The quartett was founded in 2006 and has played ever since in various formations, documented by the debut CD Nucleus (Pao Records), which was released in 2007 and Panto, published in 2012 on the self-founded label Listen Closely.
